The rich history of Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a poor country but it is also a country that is steeped in history and has some amazing sights to see. Combine that with the warmth and friendliness of the local people and you are in for a really great holiday. Samarkand is the main city of the country and it is beautifully restored and remarkably clean. It has a 2,500 year history and it is well worth using the services of a guide to show you around.

The main roads are remarkably well kept as well and however you travel is a delightful experience. In Samarkand there are plenty of mausoleums and mosques to see to say nothing of the fantastic markets where you can pick up some souvenirs of your trip. Another nice city is Bukhara which is quite different to Samarkand. The architecture here is truly wonderful to behold, some of it over 2000 years old.

The locals will really make you feel welcome wherever you go and the best way to experience their true hospitality is to stay in one of the many family run bed and breakfasts or inns. There are bigger hotels with all the amenities but if you want to immerse yourself in the local culture then the small places are far better.

You may not have the amenities that a chain hotel can offer you but you will be treated like royalty by your hosts. The food is fantastic as well and you will be able to try plenty of the local delicacies. Bukhara is also renowned for its many bars and restaurants where you can experience more of the local hospitality.
