Andorra; a paradise in the Pyrenees

If you are looking for a ski holiday that is a little bit different, then set your sights on Andorra.

This tiny principality which nestles in the Pyrenees between France and Spain is a fabulous winter holiday destination for those looking for that special something. Andorra’s economy relies of tourism, and any country in this position goes all out to ensure that the people keep coming by offering them the best possible facilities.

The rugged mountains and high altitude make this a skiers paradise, and the snowfall is second to none. Combine this wonderful snow with the duty free shopping, and it is easy to see why over 9m tourists a year flock to this little country that boasts a population of only 68,000.

Huge investments have been made to ensure that the ski resorts in Andorra can rival anywhere in the world, and the ski circuit revolves around Granvalia, which includes Grau Roig, Pas de la Casa, Soldeu and El Tartar, and is an amazing place to take your winter break. The area boasts over 119 miles of ski runs and the glorious scenery further adds to the pleasure of taking to the slopes.

At the opposite end of Andorra is the Vallnord ski area, and comprises of the Pal and Arinsal resorts. While not as large as Granvalia, those who come here can still spend a great week zipping through the snow and inhaling the pristine mountain air. If cross country skiing or snow shoeing is more your scene, then you want to be looking at taking your break in the La Rabassa area of Andorra.

Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or advanced skier, there are slopes in Andorra perfectly suited to your ability. The resorts also offer other great attractions such as bars, restaurants, nightclubs and, especially for shopaholics, transportation to Andorra la Vella.
