Tunisia: Country Guide
As Tunisian rule has changed hands many times throughout history, the country’s past has been a varied and often turbulent one. For travellers, this means an intriguing hodgepodge of influences, including Spanish, Muslim, Roman, Jewish, Arab, Ottoman, and even Phoenician.
With an immensely dry, hot climate year-round, Tunisia can provide quite an adventure. In the country’s southern region – an area almost entirely within the Sahara desert – tourists can take off-road desert treks through thousands of square miles of vast sand dunes.
Tourists from around the world flock to the iconic, Roman ruins of Dougga, El-Jem, and of course Carthage. Although you certainly won’t be alone in visiting them, these must-see structures are some of the oldest and most influential in the world.
To avoid some of the crowds, head towards the sea and any one of Tunisia’s world class beaches. The warm, Mediterranean waters guarantee a relaxing holiday vibe any time of year.
